Finchale Priory

Thirteenth-century Benedictine priory. Built around the tomb of St Godric who lived in hermitage until he was 105. After Durham, the most important monastic site in the country, set against a lush background of trees in a loop of the River Wear. Used as a holiday home for monks in the 14thC.
